Emotional Eating

Are you an emotional eater?  Do you eat when you are sad, bored, lonely, anxious or scared?  I know I used to do that without even thinking.  In fact, now I go and write in my journal and pray when I find myself eating for no reason because it usually means something is bugging me.  I think that is the first step to overcoming this--- to realize that you do it.  Ask yourself, am I really hungry?  Why am I eating? 

Eating for other reasons other than hunger can be dangerous.  Eating for emotional reasons doesn't help you deal with the problem, it is just a distraction from facing the issue head on.  So how can you face your problems and deal with them instead of trying to fruitlessly eat them away?
